I have tried a few free antivirus softwares which may be effective catching viruses but for heaven's sake they slow down the computer to a ridiculous crawl. I am still willing to try some more, but I wonder if anyone here can recommend a few AV that do not slow down the computer to a noticeable level. Some of the ones I remember using for a while have been: Please tell me of your experiences.
Avast is quite good and does not slow down the computer at all. The slow down you notice must have another cause. MSE that Doc posted runs in the background and does not hog your resources.
I've been using it for three years now. It has everything not just an anti-virus. I really like this Security software. You should try it out. It's all about market share and money ultimately. I don't think so. But once one company does it then many of the others feel obligated to follow suite. Another is the very understandable problem with just keeping up with malware. Don't believe everything you think. In my other post, Doc called attention to something I wrote.
I meant it does not hog resources. Thank you to all so far. I am learning what's behind these AV programs. Thank you for the list. I never realized there were so many AV programs.
